Benchmarks, not an offer or a rental quote: rent defaults are Domain's citywide median asking rents for houses or units, not a bedroom-specific figure or a suburb guarantee. Salary defaults are national full-time occupation benchmarks, not city-specific job offers. Your own offer, household size and exact rental listing should replace them. The ranking prioritizes positive cash through payday and monthly surplus.

Monthly rent is calculated from weekly rent × 52 ÷ 12. “Cash at first pay” subtracts landing costs, unpaid assessment fees, and the entered months of rent plus other costs from arrival cash. Set assessment fees to AUD 0 if already paid or not part of your route. A negative monthly surplus means the chosen salary does not cover the entered ongoing budget.

Family costs and how the estimates are built

Childcare, school charges, health cover and government support vary with state or territory, child age, visa and family circumstances. Enter your own monthly estimate above; check childcare using the official Child Care Subsidy calculator ↗ and confirm eligibility with Services Australia ↗. Do not subtract a subsidy until you confirm your eligibility.

Salary defaults use national full-time median weekly earnings from Jobs and Skills Australia, annualized × 52. The underlying ANZSCO profiles are now marked superseded and no longer updated, so treat these as dated national guide values, not current city salaries. The radiography option uses the broader Medical Imaging Professionals group because the specific diagnostic-radiographer median is not published; treat it as a proxy and replace it with an offer. Net pay uses ATO resident tax brackets for 2026–27 plus a 2% Medicare levy. It excludes HELP/HECS, Medicare levy surcharge, deductions, offsets, superannuation and visa-specific tax situations.
