CAMRT's assessment route differs by province. Radiological technology, magnetic resonance, nuclear medicine and radiation therapy have discipline-specific competency and certification requirements.
Your radiography experience needs a province-specific licensing plan.
This guide is for internationally educated Medical Radiation Technologists (MRTs), including radiological technologists working in X-ray, CT, fluoroscopy, mammography and related imaging. Assessment and registration steps depend on the province and specialty, so choose the intended place of practice before ordering credential evaluations or paying exam fees.

Ontario, Alberta and Québec use their provincial regulator for initial assessment. Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia require an initial regulator step. Other jurisdictions may direct you to CAMRT's credential assessment.
Gather proof of education, official transcripts, detailed curriculum/course outlines, language evidence, and verified clinical/work history. Match each item to your chosen regulator's current checklist.
The assessor decides whether your education and experience meet the required standard and whether you may attempt the discipline's national certification exam. Gaps may require further study or training.
Where MRT practice is regulated, submit a separate registration application and meet local requirements such as jurisprudence, good character, liability insurance and legal authorization to work.
Evidence to organize
- Government photo ID and name-change records, if applicable.
- Medical radiation technology diploma/degree and official transcript.
- Course outlines and curriculum from the year you studied, showing theory and clinical hours by subject.
- Clinical/work evidence for the chosen discipline: equipment, procedures, settings, patient groups, employment dates and practice hours.
- Language evidence. CAMRT may accept proof that the full theoretical and clinical program was taught and assessed in English or French, or an accepted language test; follow your regulator's rules.
- Credential evaluation, translations, references, professional standing, criminal record check, and other items only as required by your route.
CAMRT-route applicants: its current assessment page requires a WES Document-by-Document evaluation. Direct-assessment provinces may require different credential reports; do not assume one evaluation works everywhere.
Province-by-province first step
| Place of practice | Start here | Why the order matters |
|---|---|---|
| Ontario | CMRITO international application and assessment | The regulator assesses your education and experience; exam eligibility is determined through its process. |
| Alberta | ACMDTT internationally educated MRT route | The College assesses equivalency and controls registration pathways; do not submit a CAMRT assessment until its route tells you to. |
| Québec | OTIMROEPMQ | Separate provincial process and examination requirements. |
| Saskatchewan | CMRIPS | CAMRT says CMRIPS first determines eligibility for CAMRT credential assessment. |
| Nova Scotia | NSRMIRT / NSCMIRTP | Start with the regulator's current international applicant process; some applicants are referred for CAMRT assessment and exam. |
| BC, MB, NB, PEI, NL | Check CAMRT IEMRT assessment instructions, then the local regulator/employer | CAMRT currently lists these places for direct CAMRT credential assessment; local registration requirements still differ. |
| Yukon, NWT, Nunavut | Confirm with CAMRT and the territorial employer | CAMRT's assessment page groups northern applicants; confirm the current assessment and employment rules before applying. |
